The Salvation Army  Bed and Bread program brings food, shelter and services to destitute people within our community, providing them with their basic needs and assisting them to get back on their feet. Through Salvation Army facilities and off the Bed & Bread trucks, almost 5,000 meals are served each day to children, adults and seniors. Three hundred and sixty-five days of the year Bed & Bread trucks make stops in metro Detroit’s most depressed areas. In addition, the Bed & Bread program shelters men, women and children each night.

104.3 WOMC and Dick Purtan and Purtan’s People have raised nearly $22 million for The Salvation Army through the annual Radiothon.

“The need for food and shelter provided by The Salvation Army has reached alarming levels in the Metro Detroit area,” said Major John Turner, general secretary for The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit. “Everyone at The Salvation Army, from our officers to those we serve, is so grateful to Dick Purtan and the entire WOMC family for their continued strong support. Donors can be assured that 100 percent of their donation to the Bed & Bread Club®, will go directly to the streets to not only feed the hungry and shelter the homeless, but offer them hope for a better tomorrow.”

For a single donation of $120 a year (or 12 monthly payments of $10) you can become a member of the Bread and Bread Club.  Donors who pledge $240 or more per year (also payable in monthly installments) will receive a commemorative, collectible bread plate. The 12 inch by 6 inch porcelain plate will be imprinted with the winning design from a special student contest conducted at Detroit’s College for Creative Studies.
