Haiti Quake: How You Can Help



By now you know the worst earthquake in more than 200 years hit the island of Haiti on January 12th. The devastation is estimated at 100,000 dead, with nearly 3 million requiring aid.

There are many ways you can help, and among the easiest are text-to-donate campaigns:

Bill Clinton Foundation
Text "HAITI" to 20222 to automatically donate $10 toward U.N. relief efforts. The charge will show up on your next bill.

Red Cross
Text "HAITI" to 90999 and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill.

Yele Haiti
TEXT "yele" to 501501 to donate to $5 from your cellphone to Wyclef Jean's Haitian charity.

Hope For Haiti Now (Telethon) CD
iTunes customers can exclusively pre-order the "Hope for Haiti Now" full-performance album ($7.99) and the full two-hour video telecast ($1.99). Apple, the record labels and the artists will donate their share of the proceeds to Haiti relief funds managed by "Hope for Haiti Now" charities.

The U.S. State Department Operations Center said Americans seeking information about family members in Haiti should call 1-888-407-4747. Due to heavy volume, some callers may receive a recording. "Our embassy is still in the early stages of contacting American citizens through our Warden Network," the U.S. State Department said in a statement. "Communications are very difficult within Haiti at this time."

For those interesting in helping immediately, simply text "HAITI" to "90999" and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill. (For more information, go to the Department of State blog.)
