Larry began working with Dick Purtan at Keener-13 in Dearborn. He was a sophomore in undergraduate school at Wayne State University at the time and to this date has never stopped working with Dick (although Dick has asked him to stop many times).
Lawson is a Doctor of Medicine and practices radiology, yet he finds the time to write and perform characters such as Wendell Ledbetter and The Story Lady. The Story Lady goes back many years. Wendell Ledbetter, as you may have guessed, goes back to biblical days. He also does the Krapco Catalogue and recently attempted to resurrect the White Fang character but it sucked. You may remember Manooga Man (a.k.a. Jerome Cavanaugh), a Lawson creation. Larry also wrote “ 'Lizabeth Taylor Thighs”, a parody song that was played nationwide.
Larry is funny (some say “a little funny”) and claims to have written many famous TV shows…but the TV shows have never written him back. (Drum roll please).
Broadcasting career highlight? According to Lawson “I once met Bill Bonds. It was in a restaurant, I think”.
In his spare time he likes to…..spare time? Who are you kidding?
Larry doesn't like people who are mean.
