Ferndale, Michigan — It’s the salsa that says you care! Garden Fresh Gourmet’s founder and president, Jack Aronson, has lovingly created a new, two-pint All Natural Purtan’s Special Limited Edition Mango Peach Salsa and
100 percent of the profits will directly support the Salvation Army Bed and Bread Club® as part of the 23rd annual Dick Purtan Radiothon being held February 26, 2010 at Oakland Mall. The charitable salsa-maker’s goal? A $100,00 donation!
" I can’t thank Garden Fresh Gourmet enough for their incredibly generous support for the Salvation Army’s Bed and Bread Club," said Dick Purtan, host of 104.3 WOMC’s Dick Purtan and Purtan’s People morning show. "Plus, my heartfelt thanks to all participating stores for being a part of this great campaign to help feed and shelter the needy in Metro Detroit. It’s a true testament to the caring spirit that has earned our community its place among the most charitable people in the country."
Approximately 5,000 meals are served each day to children, adults and seniors by The Salvation Army Bed & Bread program, which includes Bed & Bread trucks that make stops in Detroit’s most depressed areas every day of the year. In addition, 570 men, women and children are sheltered by The Salvation Army Bed & Bread program every day and night of the year. More than a simple shelter or soup kitchen, The Salvation Army Bed & Bread Club® also provides educational, emotional and medical assistance to the people it serves.

"We are so blessed that 100 percent of the money raised at the Dick Purtan Radiothon goes directly to help feed the hungry and house the homeless on the streets of Detroit through The Salvation Army Bed and Bread Program," said Major John Turner, general secretary and second in command of The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan. "Now, 100 percent of the funds raised through the sale of Garden Fresh Gourmet's new Purtan's Special Salsa will be donated to the Radiothon and help us fulfill this important mission. The Salvation Army is truly fortunate to have such dedicated, generous partners."
Purtan’s Special Salsa, which features an eye-catching caricature of its namesake’s face, boasts a unique mango peach flavor with honey, ginger and a kiss of habanero. "This is a special salsa for a special cause," Aronson said of his delicious, preservative-free creation. "We entered this recipe at the Fiery Foods Show in Albuquerque and it won several awards in the fruit salsa category. It’s sweet with a little heat at the end."
Various grocery stores including those serviced by Lipari Foods are currently carrying the two-pint, party size Purtan’s Special Limited Edition Mango Peach Salsa for only $5.99 (a savings of $2 from Garden Fresh Gourmet’s usual two-pint container price). The salsa will be on store shelves through February and is a perfect party pleasing product for special occasions like post-holiday parties, Super Bowl shindigs, and Valentine’s Day soirees.
